  written By Kennedy Kioko

“There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction.”

--John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Your car or motorbike is in most cases one of your most expensive investment. Whether you own it directly, have a financing company behind the investment, or someone else owns it, an effective risk management plan is essential. Not everyone is of the same skill level or have same level of care on the road. As our African mothers always say, “you are the only sane driver on the road”. It doesn’t matter how careful you are, chances of you being in an incident are high.

Here are the different motor insurance covers accessible in Kenya;

COMPREHENSIVE

This covers repair or replacement of your vehicle in the event of collision, fire, malicious damage and theft. In Kenya, comprehensive cover applies to vehicles not older than 15 years.

Comprehensive cover also covers for cost of repairing and replacing any other vehicle damaged in an accident.

Most companies in Kenya covers include property damage, personal accident, legal costs even courtesy car while repairs are being done. They are treated as optional extras, so make sure to talk to us for the type of policy that is right for you.

THIRD PARTY PROPERTY DAMAGE

This insurance covers the cost of damage caused to other people’s property and legal costs but not damage to your vehicle.

THIRD PARTY FIRE AND THEFT

This insurance cover is identical to Third party property but will also cover for damage caused to your vehicle by fire or theft.
